George explains the workings of his lumber mill.

Uncle George, or 'Georgie', was one my Mom's younger brothers. She was probably at least fifteen years older than him, and when I asked him if he could come up with any stories about her for me, sadly he drew a blank.

George built a sawmill out behind clearing where he built his house. A few years ago it burned to the ground, and he rebuilt it on a bit smaller scale. There are big stacks of hardwood nearby that he has milled over the years.

My grandmother had one for me though...While she was still in high school, my mother invited my dad to Thanksgiving dinner at her house. Unknown to my grandmother, he had to walk quite a long distance from his home in a nearby town, and got a late start. When he didn't show up, and dinner was ready, my grandfather insisted that they start without him. My mother was very embarassed by this, Grandma recalled, but she also remembered that he brought her a nice box of chocolates.
