Work life at the call center is settling down into a tolerable routine - sometimes pleasant and stimulating, occasionally frustrating and tedious. If nothing else, a few hundred bucks shows up in the checking account every Friday. And time passes quickly.

But...I saw another Craigslist room for rent in Guanajuato last night. Here is the description: Rooms available in friendly artists compound. $125 us a week, $250 a month for long termers. Two bathrooms both with tubs, shared kitchen and common room with fireplace and bar, washing machine and wifi.

We continue to get re-warmed up to the possibility of the Mexico alternative. Now that the US economy has been destroyed by the massive swindles and idiocy of business and government miscreants, the lesser demands of life south of the border takes on a new allure. I don't really want to drive by the wind-swept frozen expanse of the abandoned big-box store malls here next winter and see homeless squatters huddled around empty fifty gallon drums loaded with burning busted-up pallets, roasting squirrel carcasses skewered on sticks in some sort of alternative-reality fast-food scene. Among other things.

The news on all fronts of the economy, national and global, is truly horrifying. I find it impossible to imagine what it will all eventually look like here in the States. Vast numbers of the middle class who misplaced their trust in the 'investment' industry and their government will find themselves unable to retire. Ever. On the other hand, I imagine that life in Mexico will be relatively unchanged - they hardly ever had a middle class to begin with. Many poor, a few very wealthy. We have a little cajita that features representatives of the three major Mexican political parties.

The Mexicans have never imagined that their politicians might represent their best interests, so they are rarely disappointed or disillusioned.

Another of the my miniaturas is a reminder not to get carried away trying to pad the financial security with endless trivial work.

And time passes quickly.
